Dry needling is a treatment technique that uses fine, sterile needles to target specific muscles and areas of tension. It may be used by our physiotherapists as part of a broader treatment plan to help reduce muscle tension, relieve pain and improve movement.
During treatment, the needle is inserted into targeted muscles or trigger points. This can help stimulate the muscle and may assist with reducing tightness and improving how the area moves and functions.
Dry needling may be helpful for a range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:
- Muscle tightness and tension
- Neck and shoulder pain
- Back pain
- Sports and exercise-related injuries
- Muscle and joint pain
- Reduced movement associated with muscle tension
Your physiotherapist will assess your condition and determine whether dry needling is appropriate for you. It is often combined with other physiotherapy treatments such as hands-on therapy, stretching, strengthening and tailored exercises.
