Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates is an emerging specialisation within Physiotherapy.
A physiotherapist who specialises in the field of Clinical Pilates,
utilises Pilates equipment and exercises to treat people with all
manner of injuries, illnesses or disabilities.
Researchers have developed a range of exercises for training "core
spinal control" which have been clinically demonstrated to
reduce postural pain, including both lower back and neck pain. Clinical
Pilates exercises are based on core spinal control, with specific
exercises to challenge these muscles. To perform the exercises properly,
a controlled pelvic and shoulder girdle is crucial to facilitate
and challenge both the deep and global musculature. Once control
is established and muscles are being recruited appropriately, complexity
of movements is increased for further challenge.
Clinical Pilates exercises are done on a variety of Pilates spring
loaded resistance equipment, including the “reformer”,
“trap table” and “wunda chair”.
As our physiotherapists instruct Clinical Pilates patients, it
is health fund rebatable.
